This is a very intriguing space, with a throwback pre-war secret society vibe. Descending underground and down a long draped hallway, you're deposited in a large but intimate area with a screaming roaring 20s aesthetic. As the name implies this is a spectacularly authentic Italian restaurant, where any pasta dish will exceed your expectations. For the experience you need to order the pasta tossed in the flaming wheel of Parmesan. I've only ever seen this in 2-3 places, so take advantage of the opportunity. We had both the orecchiette and fettuccine, making evident they cook the pastas to the ideal al dente firmness. The single drawback is the service. We perhaps came at an inopportune time, or had a bad draw of servers. While pleasant and nice, he was annoyingly hard to locate throughout the meal. It was sadly out of keeping with every other aspect of the experience. But since so many things can impact that, it's only a small ding. For fans of Italian food looking for an experience, I'd say this is a can't-miss.

This modern trattoria is exactly what the decor of an italian restaurant should be--perhaps it could be more modern with a more high tech and music vibe. I had a great meal of shrimp fra diavolo with fresh tomatoes, spicy sauce and a quality simple amount of pasta--more heavy on the sauce. The mozzarella with olive oil appetizer is amazing and you should not miss it when you are in the city of Brotherly love--BTW our waitress was outstanding. She was both friendly and helpful as was everyone in what has been one of my best Philadelphia restaurant experiences.

My rating is exclusively for their happy hour! Love the vibe of this place. The dim lighting really made it feel more intimate and date night feel. We came as a group of 8 and we were easily accommodated as we walked in as soon as they opened. We ordered one of everything for one side of the table and it was plenty of food for four people. Every dish we ordered was delicious. I personally loved the pizza, ricotta toast, caesar salad and shrimp scampi. I although didn't care too much for the sandwiches they offered for happy hour - only one I liked was the chicken parm. We did order off the happy hour menu for dessert. I got the tiramisu and it was one of the best I have ever had! They even put it together in front of you tableside. The coffee flavor was very strong, but the sweetness of the mascarpone balanced it out. Now for the cocktails, they did not disappoint. My personal favorite was the Hotel Nacional. Our server was very attentive and was quick to take any additional orders of food and cocktails we had. Overall, a great happy hour experience!

Came here for a birthday based on drinks and the look of the food. Was not disappointed, but there could've been some tweaks to make it even better. Cocktails were very tasty. Appetizers were also very tasty. The mozzarella really needed the pesto sauce that it came with to give it just that little bit more flavor. The calamari was nice and crispy. A bread that they served is homemade and that also was quite good. We had a number of different entrées that were all very good. The rigatoni was very tasty. The chicken Parmesan was spot on. The spaghetti with clams was very very good, but it was a little odd. Two people got this dish and the portion sizes were very different. We had the cannolis for dessert. It could've been better. On the one side the filling was not too sweet. But at the same time could've used a little bit of flavoring of some sort. I don't know if they were going for the subtle taste. As you have probably read other reviews this place is downstairs. The decor is really really nice. I love the atmosphere. The bar is massive, but it was completely filled. So if you're thinking about going for happy hour, then you better go early. They start at four, I think . The service was also extremely well done. Very attentive, but not overbearing. Took care of us very well. Sorry for the lack of pictures. I knew I should've taken more.

Food: food was great! We ordered off the HH menu and got the Cesar salad, mussels, pizza, shrimp scampi, and chicken parm. There were lots of compliments on the Cesar salad I thought it was ok! Wish shrimp scampi was more juicy/had more garlic but overall can't complain for a HH menu. The pizza tasted more like garlic bread but again, no complaints for the super reasonable pricing. Also the cheescake was sooo good, I might've even liked it better than the tiramisu (which was also great). Drink: the HH drinks were so yum. I got the lend lease, the limonata, and a glass of white wine. Service: 5 stars for service! Javier was our server and he was so attentive and had a great personality. We were a group of 8 and he was extremely patient with us! Made our experience absolutely incredible. They also brought out lots of sparklers for the bday girl w dessert- such a nice touch. Ambiance: really nice ambiance! I like the decor. Just be careful walking into the restaurant as there are some dimly lit stairs. Also had to include a pic of the bathrooms bc it looked cool. TLDR: great food, we did the HH menu so can't speak on the regular dine in menu. Sat relatively quickly for a group of 8 and our server Javier was amazing. Nice ambiance.

One of the best happy hours in Philly! Taste: 4.5/5, Value: 4/5, Ambience: 5/5 We love going to this place for happy hour! Happy hour is only at the bar, so come early to get a spot since there is only a small amount of bar seating and it can get pretty busy. It is great that they have happy hour even on the weekends. This place is very cute with dim lighting great for a romantic happy hour date. The food is very tasty (we have had the pizza, meatballs, calamari, and clams). The cocktails are some of the best (our favorite is the hotel nacional) - great balance of flavors and quite strong too! Great value and great taste!

There were too many amazing options to choose from so we ordered a lot! We started with drinks and appetizers-- the meatballs, octopus, and mussels. Then we got veal parm & rigatoni alla vodka. We couldn't leave without trying dessert-- limoncello tart. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, and I would love to be back! The prices are reasonable for the food portions and quality. I highly recommend Giuseppe & Sons!
